Should have been last night…should of, would of, could of, (looks weird, huh)
Highs, only a couple of lows (the LAX airport, the redeye–funny the lows are all plane related), and got me back to my cozy bed in NYC safely. Though I’m thinking this trip to LA might not be my last, it’s still worth mentioning what I spent my days working on in the sunny (and warm!!) city.
Friday night included a show by Matt Sucich (NY) and Jake Newton (LA) at Room 5 lounge. Matt was more than kind to invite me to sing a couple of harmonies on his song ‘Jubilation & Jealousy’ the title track of his upcoming album. Room 5 has awesomely comfortable chairs, but no Guinness upstairs (yes a rhyme)!! Room 5, let’s work on that problem together and everything will be OK.
Saturday included seeing some family, fine, maybe a bit of shopping (new converse!!) and me randomly inviting someone I met at a store to the Café Muse show. He didn’t come, but that’s okay, I’ll keep inviting and if people want to come, they’ll come and if they don’t, they won’t. CAFÉ MUSE is a wonderful café that I would recommend looking into for a funky atmosphere, good food, and cool music! Between Matt Sucich and I, we had the place packed (thanks to all of you who came or recommended that your friends check out the show) which helped pump some energy into the sets. Matt came up and joined me for a couple of songs, which was wonderful… we’ll have to do it again sometime soon so all you New Yorkers can check it out!
Sunday, stopped at a farmer’s market (blood oranges, ended up being overripe), met my friend Jess at Taste (great brunch) before heading off to the Grammys. The show was fun to watch, very long as they constantly have commercial breaks, but definitely an experience. I L O V E Mumford & Sons… so I’m just going to hint at my favorite performance of the night. At the after party I felt a bit as if I was surrounded by people looking to “catch a break”, or something like that. That whole vibe makes me shut down. I really don’t want to be a part of that hoping, banking on other people to do the work for me, relying on other people’s songs. I’m not saying you shouldn’t do that, or really anything negative about that process, but for me, I could never. I actually wanted to run away from that whole scene. Private Grammy after parties… someday we will meet, and that, I think, will work out.
Monday included a stop at someone’s private Rock n Roll museum. It was amazing. He has every record that has charted in billboard magazine’s top 100 since the lists started in the 1950’s (cds and vinyl). His entire house was filled with memorabilia not to be believed.
Tuesday was a stop at CBS studios for The Talk (just watched, love Leah Rimini, Cyndi Lauper was the guest, got her new CD, have yet to listen but I’ll check it out) and I walk by the Outsourced set (great show, yes it’s NBC but they use a nearby lot).
THEN, the REDEYE. But now I’m back in New York and all is well. Getting ready for the upcoming showcase, some mini touring, and some new NYC dates. Stay tuned my friends, I love you all and hope you’re well!!
